Radicalism in Pas will not be tolerated: Hadi

KOTA BARU: Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said yesterday that the party would sack members found to have participated in radical groups at home or abroad.

He said Pas was firm in forbidding members from joining any of radical groups to solve domestic and Muslim issues through armed struggles.

"We have no hesitation to take action by stripping their membership if they exist," he said in a statement.

Hadi said Pas needed to reiterate that the party would continue to choose elections based on democratic system in its struggles.

"This is the approach that we have offered to our Muslim brothers in Islamic movements worldwide," he said, adding that the peaceful process under democratic system was the most suitable.

He said that was why Pas disagreed with the approach taken in Syria and Iraq where armed figtings were used to settle problems affecting the nations.

He said this was against the concept of jihad (matyrdom) as espoused by the Quran and the prophet's traditions and practised by the past Muslim caliphates.
