LAHAD DATU: Shots were fired by suspected illegal hunters at a forest checking station in a a virgin jungle reserve here.
The shots struck a Forestry Department vehicle and staff quarters near the station at the Sepagaya Virgin Jungle Reserve along the Silam-Danum Valley road yesterday at about 7.30pm.
Two men on a motorcycle were earlier spotted near the post but they rode into some bushes to avoid being checked.
State Forestry director Datuk Sam Mannan said a report has been lodged and police are investigating the shooting.
"The area is equipped with closed circuit television cameras and we have handed over the recording to the police to assist their probe into the case," Sam said.
