Ringgit lower on short-covering

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended lower against the US dollar yesterday on short-covering activities following Bank Negara Malaysia’s increase in the overnight policy rate by 25 basis points to 3.25 per cent, dealers said.

The ringgit was quoted at 3.1850/1870 against the greenback from Thursday’s 3.1770/1800.

The ringgit dipped against the Singapore dollar to 2.5648/5669 from 2.5588/5620 on Thursday and depreciated against the yen to 3.1432/1458 from 3.1328/1364 previously.

The local unit eased against the British pound to 5.4559/4606 from 5.4384/4445 and declined against the euro to 4.3351/3381 from 4.3309/3359 previously. Bernama
