School band wins Vienna music fest awards

SEPANG: Sekolah Seri Puteri Cyberjaya won second place in the Symphonic Bands category at the International Youth Music Festival (IYMF) 2014 in Vienna, Austria.

Seri Puteri Symphonic Winds (SP Winds), the school’s orchestra, also won the special award, Jeunesse Austria (Encouragement Award), for its outstanding performance.

Principal Siti Rogayah Yahya said she was proud the members overcame challenges.

“I am proud of my girls for their achievement, knowing that they competed against groups with more experience and exposure,” she said after receiving members of the orchestra at Kuala Lumpur International Airport here yesterday.

Siti Rogayah said SP Winds was the first orchestra from Malaysia to win the special award.

She expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, who is also SP Winds patron.
