Fuming over uncollected rubbish

IPOH: RESIDENTS of the affluent Jalan Tun Dr Ismail neighbourhood here are unhappy with the heaps of uncollected rubbish bags left in their housing area.

Checks by Streets recently found about 50 rubbish bags, filled with grass trimmings, dumped outside a bungalow along a road here.

Other items disposed of included tree trunks and branches as well as old furniture.

One resident, who requested anonymity, said that he believed that these uncollected garbage bags could turn the area into a mini dumpsite.

“The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Ipoh City Council (MBI). They should be collecting the rubbish bags regularly but they aren’t doing so.

“Some of the bags have been around for the past one month. I hope the authorities will come clear it,” she said.

Meanwhile, the MBI corporate affairs principal assistant director Normala Latiff said the council had engaged a private contractor to collect discarded bulky items like old furniture, tree trunks, branches and garden refuse.

She said the collection was carried out once a month in each neighbourhood.

“In this case, I believe the contractor has not collected the garden refuse yet because they have to follow the timetable set,” she said, adding that the contractor would eventually collect it.

She advised the public, who wish to get rid of bulky items, to arrange for the collection with the contractor at 05-254 0096.
