KUALA LUMPUR: When Keow Wee Loong started his climb at Bangunan 1 Sentrum of KL Sentral, here,
on June 29, he was prepared to face the consequences.
Even though Keow who is also known as Kiwi was only trying to send a peace message to Muslims in conjunction with Ramadan and Felixia
Yap who had embraced Islam, his feat was deemed dangerous.
True enough, he was caught and fined RM1,000, but not before undergoing urine test and mental tests.
“But I just wanted to do something different, I wanted to unfold a “Happy Ramadan” banner and congratulating Felixia.
“I quietly climbed up the building but somehow someone spotted me. It took me approximately 30 minutes to
reach the 29th floor where I was "greeted" by several policemen who hauled him up," he said.
Keow who is a freelance photographer also wanted a different view from the top. "I was geared with a GoPro camera for a breathtaking view of KL."
"But the policemen at the station were more concerned about my DSLR which they confiscated. They forgot about my GoPro," he said adding that the policemen were also excited about meeting him.
"Some took pictures with me. But then I was still charged and fined," he said laughingly.
He said as a photographer, he was looking for different angle to get amazing pictures and just enjoy the
view of the city.
“The scene of the city much different when we are at the top of the building, it is not the same from what
we saw from the inside.
“It was breezy up there especially at night,” he said with big smile on his face.
Asking about his preparation before climbing, he told NST Online that he actually just walk by and climb the building, with no special gear.
“They were just my sandals, gloves and my cameras.
“I don’t have sponsors or partners to support my activities, I just do it on my own and I like it that
way,” he said, adding that it was never for publicity but for photography.
“I am also doing it for Malaysia, because not many Malaysian climb our own building, with permits of
course!” he chuckled.
