IPOH: SULTAN of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has opened the RM4 million Muhammadiah Mosque.
Earlier, he had joined the congregation to perform Friday prayers at the mosque which is located in Taman Tasek Jaya.
Sultan Nazrin said no one should be allowed to cause religious misunderstanding.
If it happens, he said it must be stopped immediately.
He added that this could lead to wrong interpretations, which could potentially lead to conflicts and disputes.
“Conflicts and misunderstandings, which are left to drag on, could likely lead to crises... confrontation,” he said.
“Conflicts, disputes, crises and confrontations between religions, if left protracted, could affect the harmony, peace and social stability in the country.”
Mosque committee deputy chairman Datuk Dr Fadzli Cheah Abdullah said: “The mosque can accommodate 1,000 people at one time,” he said.
He said with the completion of the mosque, various activities for new converts could now be implemented.
“In Perak, there are some 5,000 Chinese Muslims,” he said.
He said the mosque’s Chinese architectural design was aimed at explaining that Islam was not opposed to influences from other cultures as long as those cultures were not in conflict with Islam.
“This mosque is capable of giving good impact in promoting multi- racial harmony and foster unity,” he added.
The mosque, noted Dr Fadzli, was also capable of becoming a tourist attraction.
“It has been the focus of attention of local and foreign tourists,” he said, adding that paid TV Astro had recorded its Hari Raya Aidilfitri programme at the mosque.
