Niosh in full support of war on Aedes

THE National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) offers its full support to the Health Ministry's all-out war on dengue and calls on employers and employees to ensure that all workplaces are free of Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

Given the seriousness of the dengue problem, employers and employees, as well as the entire community, must give their fullest co-operation to the Health Ministry to arrest the growing number of dengue cases.

In this regard, attention must be given to all worksites, particularly construction sites, to ensure they are free of Aedes mosquito breeding grounds. It is the responsibility of worksite contractors and their workers to ensure cleanliness and remove objects such as empty containers, cans, tyres, etc which can turn into Aedes breeding grounds.

All local authorities must also step up anti-Aedes enforcement at construction sites, particularly abandoned projects.

Niosh is concerned about the dengue problem as it has serious implications for safety and health at workplaces.
