Ringgit extends rally against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended its rally against the US dollar to close at its best level in nine months on continued buying interest and exporters demand, dealers said.

At 5pm, the local unit was quoted at 3.1665/1685 against the greenbackfrom yesterday's 3.1755/1775.

The dealer said the local unit also found support from better risk appetite as well as renewed weakness of the greenback.

"Broad US dollar strength softened after US consumer price index slowed.

"The strong support of 3.1650 could be tested in the next session," headded.

The local currency was traded higher against other major currencies.

It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.5557/5590 from 2.5584/5604 yesterday, and strengthened against the yen to 3.1237/1266 from 3.1276/1302 on Tuesday.

The local unit was also traded higher against the British pound at 5.3979/4026 from 5.4199/4246 yesterday, and gained against the euro to 4.2640/2670 from 4.2831/2864 on Tuesday.-- Bernama
