NGOs protest peacefully in support of Palestinians

GEORGE TOWN: The Speaker's Square at Padang Kota Lama here this evening saw the presence of some 50 people who turned up in a show of support for the Palestinians affected by the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The group, formed by at least eight non-governmental organisations, gathered at the ground to condemn the Israeli attacks on Gaza Strip.

They held banner and placards that read “Israel will go down”, Israel, stop the killing”, “say no to Israel” and “Gaza will never die”.

Most of the protesters were wearing a headgear with the Gaza flag on it.

A representative from Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia, Roslan Hashim condemned the Israeli assault and urged the people to be more aware about the killing.

“Many are confused saying that the killing is because Palestine are Muslims.

“It is actually a brutality regardless of religion, race or gender.

“The Israelis are killing innocent people to claim the land in Gaza and kicking Palestinians out from their own property,” he said.

He said the association has been collecting donations around the country to buy necessities for Gaza including medicine, food and clothes.

“We have been donating a sum of RM26million for several years.

“This month (July) we have collected RM4.4million to be donated to Gaza,” he said while reminding the people to boycott Israeli products.

Also present was a Palestinian Mohammed Al-Halabi.

The 30-year-old network security student has expressed his disappointment towards Israeli attacks against his country.

“The Zionists would not stop attacking our country until we all die because they crave for our land so much.

“I hope with the support from the world, especially Malaysia, my country would be strong and Israel would stop,” he said.

Mohammed, however, feels grateful as his relatives were all still alive.
