Bank Islam wins global recognition

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd has received International Banker Awards recognition in three categories — Best Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Customer Service and Islamic Banking.

The International Banker’s annual awards recognises banking excellence globally.

Bank Islam managing director Datuk Seri Zukri Samat was named “Banking CEO of the Year (Asia)” by the publication.

Zukri has been noted particularly for his strong qualities as a leader of the Malaysia-based bank.

“He led the successful turnaround and transformation of Bank Islam from its troubled financial position in 2006 to establish the first Islamic bank in Malaysia,” the International Banker said.

A testament to Zukri’s achievements includes the “Islamic Banker of the Year 2013” award by GIFA.

In 2013, Bank Islam was named the “5th Strongest Bank in Malaysia” by The Asian Banker and garnered several awards, including “Most Innovative Islamic Bank (Malaysia) 2013” by International Finance Magazine, “Best Islamic Bank in Malaysia” by Islamic Finance News and “Islamic Bank of the Year (Malaysia) 2013” by The Banker.

The Best Customer Service Provider Asia award, meanwhile, reflects its widest dedicated Islamic banking network in Malaysia, with 136 branches and more than 1,200 self-service terminals nationwide.
