Woman arrested, drug worth RM500,000 seized at Bukit Kayu Hitam

ALOR STAR: The Kedah Customs Department thwarted an attempt to smuggle in 2.352kg of syabu, valued at RM446,880, at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration Complex about noon last Wednesday with the arrest of a woman, believed to be a drug mule.

Its deputy director Mohd Noor Yusoff, said the drug was detected in a bag belonging to the woman, who is from Bangkok.

He said a scan of the bag found something suspicious in it and when Customs official searched the bag, they found two packets wrapped with blue carbon containing white crystal, believed to be syabu, he said.

“The use of the blue carbon is to avoid detection during scanning,” he told a media conference at the state Customs ffice here today.

He said the woman, who has a child, entered the country as a tourist in a van and was heading to Penang.

She is in remand until July 30 at the Kubang Pasu police station to assist investigation, he added.

Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, a man was detained for possession of 1,000gm of cannabis, valued at RM3,000.

Sabah Customs director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok said the man, aged 38, was detained in a housing area in Papar four days ago.

“Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to his apartment where Customs official found the packets of the drug hidden under a pillow in the main room of the house,” he added.

He said a Filipino woman , aged 30, who was in the apartment, was also detained to facilitate investigation. - BERNAMA
