GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Armed Forces held its 24th Academic Excellence Awards ceremony recently in recognition of children who had performed well in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) last year.

The 109 students, whose parents are members of the armed forces, received their awards at the Pearl Eagle Riviera Second Division Headquarters Kem Tun Razak in Sungai Ara.

The number included 39 students who scored five As and above for SPM; and 76 who got six As and above for PMR.

Nur Aisyah Amirah Abdul Aziz, 18, who scored nine As for her SPM, said: “I am grateful for this award and am happy to make my parents proud. Being the eldest child in my family, I was motivated to perform well in my studies to set an example for my three siblings.

“I will strive to maintain good result throughout college,” said the daughter of a warrant officer who wants to be a pediatrician.

Nur Aisyah is studying medicine at Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences.

Following in Nur Aisyah’s footsteps is her brother Muhamd Amirul Aiman Abdul Aziz, 16, who also passed with flying colours.

The SM Sains Sultan Mohamad Jiwa student scored As in his PMR examination.

“My elder sister was my role model as she has always done well in her studies since primary school.

“I want to dedicate the award to my parents, family and teachers,” he said.

Division Two Commander Major General Datuk Mohd Shukuri Ahmad, who presented to the awards, congratulated the students and parents for their achievement.

He said 311 children of Armed Forces personnel obtained excellent results in the SPM and 571 scored good results in the PMR nationwide. By Muhamad Syakir Abdul Wahab
