PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has congratulated Malaysia’s squash queen and the badminton mixed team on clinching the second and third gold medals for the country at the Commonwealth Games.
“Datuk @NicolDavid did it again, well done to her and our mixed badminton team,” he tweeted.
In the final on Monday, Nicol defeated arch rival and world No 2, Laura Massaro of England, in straight sets, 12-10, 11-2, 11-5, in a tense 44-minute match at the Scotstoun Sports Campus.
It was also Nicol’s second gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.
The badminton mixed team defended their title after beating England 3-1 in the final at the Emirates Arena.
The first gold medal of the games was won by weightlifter Mohd Hafifi Mansor in the men’s 69kg category. Bernama
