Council says it will review drainage system

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) is aware of the flash flood problems faced by residents of Jalan Saujana Utama, Taman Saujana, Masai, here.

MBJB chief whip Datuk Yahya Jaffar said the floods were due to the water level of a nearby river being higher than the low-lying area.

Yahya said the problem is expected to be overcome when the development of affordable housing projects by the Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) is completed.

"After the local council learned about the flash floods, we widened the drain. Unfortunately, the move only provided a short-term solution.

"SPNB will be building bigger drains and more trenches to take a larger volume of water, especially during the rainy season," Yahya said.

However, Yahya said the local council will continue to review the existing drainage system to see if there is anything that can be done now to prevent flooding. By Redzuan Muharam
