State government to build international airport in Kulim soon

ALOR STAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said that the state government was in preliminary discussions with the Federal government to build an international airport in Kulim, Kedah.

"The international airport will service north Malaysia as the demand for air travel is constantly increasing.

"Although currently we have the Penang international airport in the north, in the coming years space will be a problem and congestion will increase.

"Penang has a limited area of land.

"Our proposal to the Federal government is that we have a lot more land for longer and wider air strips for cargo and passenger planes.

"We are confident the project will help the northern region," said Mukhriz.

He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the career enhancement and sport administration for administrators in the non-Federated Malay states programme at Wisma Darulaman, Alor Star today.
