KL shares close broadly higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed broadly higher today in line with most regional markets on a technical rebound as the easing of tensions in Ukraine helped boost investors' appetite.

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 9.45 points to 1,849.32, after moving between 1,840.64 and 1,849.32 throughout the day.

Advancers thumped decliners by 608 to 293, with 261 counters unchanged, 445 untraded and 11 others suspended.

A dealer said there were no signs of disappointing quarterly earnings and the global economy recovery was currently on a right track.

He said the worries over the geopolitical tensions in Ukraine and West Asia had eased, which resulted in the rebound.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index jumped 60.25 points to 17,139.67, Plantation Index improved 24.93 points to 8,924.48 and the Industrial Index rose 33.22 points to 3,187.91.

The FBM Emas Index was 60.91 points higher at 12,953.9, FBMT100 Indexincreased 57.02 points to 12,518.63, FBM 70 added 38.36 points to 14,289.5 and the FBM Ace advanced 77.1 points to 7,142.48.

Total volume fell to 3.17 billion units valued at RM2.11 from 3.42 billionunits valued at RM2.564 billion on Friday.

Among actives, Globaltec Formation, PDZ Holdings and Sumatec Resources added one sen each to 10 sen, 23 sen and 49.5 sen, respectively, while MAS earned two sen to 26 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank was flat at RM9.93, Public Bank and Axiata rose two sen each to RM18.98 and RM6.96, respectively, while TNB added eight sen to RM12.06.

The Main Market volume declined to 2.53 billion units worth RM2 billionagainst 2.70 billion units worth RM2.421 billion on Friday.

Turnover on the ACE market decreased to 600.4 million shares valued at RM101.95 million against 634.84 million shares valued at RM132.54 million last week.

Warrants went down to 33 million units worth RM4.2 million from 54.27 million units worth RM6.05 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 188.73 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 679.49 million, construction 187.43 million, trade and services 1.084 billion, technology 59.57 million, infrastructure 17.53million, SPAC 37.46 million, finance 50.86 million, hotels 2.18 million, properties 196.16 million, plantations 19.22 million, mining 40,600, REITs 5.12million, and closed/fund 114,900.-- Bernama
