Yasmin tipped to lead MDeC

YTL Communications Bhd and YTL e-Solutions Bhd executive director Datuk Yasmin Mahmood has been tipped to become Multimedia Development Corp Bhd (MDeC) new chief executive officer (CEO).

Sources said she will succeed Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, who has been appointed to lead Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd in June.

A source said Yasmin has resigned from YTL.

“An official announcement will be released by MDeC in the coming days,” said another source.

Business Times understands that Northern Corridor Implementation Authority chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq, SME Corp Malaysia deputy CEO Saifol Bahri Shamlan, and MDeC vice-president of corporate strategy Datuk Dan E Khoo and chief operating officer Ng Wan Peng had also made the short-list for the position.

Other professionals from multinational corporations and public-listed companies were also considered.

It is believed that the final decision was made at the highest level involving Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“It’s a great appointment by the government as Yasmin will elevate MDeC to the next level and build upon the strong foundation laid by Badlisham,” said an industry veteran yesterday.

“Yasmin is a bold leader who has made positive long-lasting impact wherever she went.”

Yasmin was Microsoft Malaysia managing director between 2006 and 2010.

She won Pikom’s (Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia) Personality of the Year award in 2009.
