Kelantan records highest number of dengue cases

PUTRAJAYA: Kelantan has recorded the highest number of dengue cases last week with 1,160 cases followed by Selangor 1,042 cases.

Health Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam said the authorities would look into it and he planned to pay a visit to Kelantan next week.

"The number of dengue cases in Kelantan has surpassed Selangor," he told reporters today.

In Selangor, Dr Subramaniam said there were signs of plateauing trend of dengue casesin Selangor.

But, he was cautious to add that the ministry would monitor the plateauing trend closely as it was too soon to determine whether it was a permanent or temporary phenomena.

The health minister said efforts announced earlier in the fight against dengue would proceed as planned and the Cabinet, he added, had approved nearly RM27 million of additional allocation to fund such efforts.

Dr Subramaniam said thousands of dengue test kits would be distributed for free to all private clinics in the Klang Valley soon.

"The kit is free and private medical practitioners must not charge it to their patients' medical bill. If they still do so, the ministry will blacklist them," he warned.
