Malaysia posts stronger 6.4pc growth in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian economy chalked a remarkable 6.4 per cent growth in the second quarter.

Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said the growth forecast of 4.5-5.5 per cent will be revised upwards in the upcoming Budget.

For the first half of the year, the economy grew by 6.3 per cent.

The first quarter surged by 6.2 per cent.

Inflation stabilised at 3.3 per cent during the period.

Zeti said private investment remained strong, with capital spending in the services and manufacturing sectors.

For the second quarter, all the sectors enjoyed strong growth except services and agriculture.
