WWF offers to help palm oil industry

KUCHING: World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF) is ready to help the palm oil industry achieve sustainability through better management practices without impeding expansion and productivity.

It welcomed the Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation Owners Association’s renewed focus on increasing productivity while ensuring sustainability.

WWF Malaysia executive director Datuk Dr Dionysius Sharma said it recognised that the palm oil industry had huge economic and development potential for stakeholders.

“WWF strives to ensure that the palm oil industry achieves productivity and sustainability through improvement in plantation management and mill performance.”

WWF is a party to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a global initiative on sustainable palm.

As of June, there are three million hectares of RSPO-certified plantations nationwide.
