JCorp gives RM500,000 to Gaza mission

JOHOR BARU: JOHOR Corp (JCorp) donated RM500,000 to Mercy Malaysia which is organising a humanitarian mission to Gaza, Palestine.

JCorp president and chief executive officer Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim presented a mock cheque to Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus at the Menteri Besar’s Office here recently.

The event was witnessed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Kamaruzzaman said Mercy Malaysia needed funds to continue with its humanitarian work in the conflict-torn area, as well as to help the communities there rebuild their damaged infrastructure.

“With this contribution, we hope it can help Mercy Malaysia and the Palestinian aid workers purchase medicines, food and necessities such as clothing and clean water.

“We will always give full support to groups providing humanitarian aid. This goes for both government and non-governmental organisations,” he added.

Mercy Malaysia has been based in Palestine for almost five years and has been helping the Palestinians survive by providing medical assistance, food, and other necessities.

Dr Faizal expressed his gratitude to all companies and every individual who supported Mercy Malaysia mission in Gaza.

He said the donations in cash and kind help lessened the burden of those suffering from the conflict.

“As for now, we can say that the situation in Gaza is still in the emergency phase.

“We aim to collect RM2 billion to help them with long-term redevelopment and also assist with other necessities.

“So far, we have distributed aid and carried out welfare services totalling about RM1 billion in Gaza. This consists of medical supplies, clothes, food, blankets and many more items which are urgently needed by those in the affected area,” he said.

Dr Faizal said Mercy Malaysia would provide medical specialists, surgeons and doctors from Malaysia to help the Palestinian patients once the mission was given the green light by the authorities.

He said Mercy Malaysia has so far sent 18 Malaysians, including doctors, to Gaza to help the Palestinians and assist in aid delivery.
