Rashid will be in Copenhagen after all

NATIONAL chief coach Rashid Sidek will board the flight to Copenhagen today for the World Championships after the BA of Malaysia (BAM) made an about turn and gave him the green light.

Rashid was initially left out following a spat with BAM president Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, who blamed the former national shuttler for the poor performance of the men’s singles at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Other coaches heading to Copenhagen are Tey Seu Bock, Hendrawan, Pang Cheh Chang, Rosman Razak and Jeremy Gan.

“I am happy to make the trip. I want to make a difference and hopefully, my presence can help the players make an impact in Copenhagen,” said Rashid yesterday.

However, the coach still has to reply to BAM’s show cause letter for making public his decision not to become the team leader for the Commonwealth Games.

As a requirement, Rashid must respond to the letter before he leaves for Copenhagen.

BAM vice president Koay Ban Hing said Rashid’s inclusion is a huge boost for the world meet-bound shuttlers.

“I contacted Rashid and asked him whether he wanted to be part of the coaching team to Copenhagen...he said yes. I then put in a request to BAM for his inclusion,” said Ban Hing.
