Customers, workers evacuated from Kamdar mall after fire incident

KUALA LUMPUR: Over 200 employees and customers of Kamdar textile mall in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here were evacuated after fire broke at the building's first floor about 7pm today.

The incident, believed to have started from an electrical room at the floor, saw 90 firemen rushed to the scene opposite a cinema there.

City Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail said initial information received by the responding team was that an employee is believed to have been trapped inside the building.

The firemen from four fire stations, equipped with breathing apparatuses, immediately launched a firefighting and search and rescue mission to find the employee.

However, after thorough checks on the seven-storey building, the team confirmed that no victim was inside.
