Three-hour treat for music lovers

GEORGE TOWN: A THREE-HOUR performance by the Penang Free School band, during its homecoming concert here recently left the audience in awe.

Themed Tribute To The Grand Old Lady, the concert was held to mark the school’s bicentenary celebration, which will take place in two years’ time.

Featuring more than 40 musicians, the concert saw various orchestral instruments, including the clarinet, trombone, percussion, euphonium, saxophone, French horn, timpani and trumpet being played.

The audience were entertained with songs from various film and animation soundtracks at the school’s main hall.

The evening started with the song Out of Africa that warmed up the audience, which comprised mostly the younger generation, to what was to follow.

The band then performed the song Circle of Life from the movie The Lion King.

The audience were kept thrilled with the performance of I Dreamed A Dream from the film Les Miserables and The Phantom of The Opera.

Songs from Jurassic Park also filled the hall. After the energetic performance, the band moved to ballads, starting with Yorkshire Ballad by James Barnes.

The evening ended with Blue Ridge Saga, which was also the theme song for the concert.
