MH370: Cabinet to discuss next phase of search, cost-sharing with Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet is discussing the next phase of the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, including the issue of cost-sharing with Australia.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said his deputy Datuk Rahim Bakri, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin will be heading to Canberra next week to meet with Australian and Chinese officials on the search.

During the meeting, he said, the Malaysian delegation will also sign a memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Australia.

“It is important to note that the Cabinet appreciates and is thankful for Australia’s contribution thus far in the search efforts for MH370.

“We are also thankful to the Chinese government in their commitment to the trilateral agreement that has been established,” he told reporters here.

Hishammuddin also reassured the families of MH370’s passengers and crew that the government remained committed in the search for the aircraft, even in the wake of a second aviation disaster.

“While our nation is still coping with the grief and shock of the recent MH17 tragedy, we can assure you that the passengers and families of MH370 have not left our hearts.”
