Boria beat rocks at Fort Cornwallis

GEORGE TOWN: THE Boria Festival 2014 will be held on Saturday and Sunday at Fort Cornwallis, Padang Kota Lama here.

Jointly organised by the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) and Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, the event will feature the state’s 10 best boria groups which will fall under several categories such as under 12 years old, teenagers, adults, veterans and international.

There will be demonstrations on the making of traditional boats, games and batik printing.

Other highlights are the Battle of the Band and Boria Sketch competition as well as a P. Ramlee song singing contest, which is open to Malaysian aged 16 to 35.

Participants of the Boria Sketch, are limited to 5 in a group, and the theme is on current community issues.

The show begins at 8.30pm.

The winner of Battle of the Band will walk away with RM2,000, while the first and second runners-up will receive RM1,500 and RM1,000 each, respectively.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Boria Sketch competition will get RM700, and the first and second runners-up will receive RM500 and RM200, respectively.

The will be sub-categories such as Best Theme and Best Actor and the winners will receive RM200 and RM100 respectively.
