Malaysia to host Digital Campus

KUALA LUMPUR: DIGITAL entrepreneurs and technologists from around the world will converge for the Digital Campus 2014 conference here from Oct 3 to 5. It is set to attract more than 100,000 participants.

Youth on Unity chairman Mohd Nazifuddin Mohd Najib said experts from Google and the National Robotics Engineering Centre in Pittsburgh, United States, were invited.

The non-governmental organisation is co-organising the event at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, together with the Youth and Sports, and Education Ministries.

Nazifuddin said the event was set to unleash potential in the industry through digital education, e-gaming and workshops for youth aged between 18 and 35.

Nazifuddin said the event was organised with several objectives in mind, including educating the youth on the latest technology for job opportunities, to expose them to the latest gadgets and to inspire them to pursue digital interests positively.

“This is a pioneer event to empower the digital passion among youth. We are looking into expanding regionally in the future.”

On the country’s digital and information technology sector,  Nazifuddin said Malaysia needed an environment that nurtured the sector to reach greater heights.

“We need to look at where we stand in terms of the development of digital companies and improve it further.”

He said the country aimed to increase its revenue from the sector to 20 per cent of the nation’s gross domestic product.

He urged digital companies in Malaysia to strengthen this sector by employing the best local talent.

“Our youth may not have much opportunities to participate if most companies are run by foreigners,” said Nazifuddin.
