Lead stewardess Mastura laid to rest

SEREMBAN: The return of the remains of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 lead stewardess, Mastura Mustafa, brought closure to her family yesterday.

“We can finally move on. The next step is for the government to seek justice for the victims,” said Marzaidi Mohammad, who was Mastura’s ex-husband, at the Taman Paroi Jaya Muslim cemetery here.

He said he was glad that Mastura’s remains were recovered so that their son, Muhriz, 10, could visit his mother’s grave.

“In the first week after the tragedy, Muhriz cried in his bed even after the lights were switched off. However, he is now calmer.

“But there are times when he will become sad and I will tell him to recite the al-Fatihah,” said 45-year-old Marzaidi, a financial consultant based in Kuala Lumpur.

Muhriz lives with his grandfather, Mustafa Abdul Samad, 83, in Kampung Sentosa, Paroi.

However, since Monday, he had been staying with Marzaidi and his parents in Rapat Setia, Ipoh.

The boy broke down in front of his mother’s casket when it was placed inside the At-Taqwa Mosque in Kampung Paroi.

Mastura’s sister, Munirah, 52, said she hoped the government would bring justice to the victims.

Mustafa thanked the government for arranging his daughter’s burial.
