400 squatter houses to be demolished in Sabah east coast

LAHAD DATU: About 400 squater houses will be demolished in Kampung Air Lahad Datu to curb presence of illegal immigrants who are potential whistleblowers to cross border criminals.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said Esscom had identified the houses which will be taken down soon in the Ops Gasak 26.

"Today, we have detained 925 illegal immigrants including children in the water village here," he said in a statement.

They are 243 men, 331 women and 351 children.

All of them were brought to the district marine police for further action by the Immigration Department.

Abdul Rashid said many of the foreigners have no documents and some were in possession of dubious documents.
