Hui Ern-Hui Lin pass first test

THE Ng sisters, Hui Lin and Hui Ern earned a boost on their return to the national team by reaching the women’s doubles second round at the World Championships in Copenhagen yesterday.

The World No 43 produced a polished performance to oust Nigeria’s World No 98 Tosin Damilola Atolagbe-Fatima Azeez 21-4, 21-10 in 20 minutes in their third successive appearance in the world meet.

Hui Ern-Hui Lin play 14th seeds Eufje Muskens-Selena Piek of the Netherlands in the second round today. The Dutch pair receive a first round bye.

World No 15 Eufje-Selena have never lost to Hui Lin-Hui Ern, winning all their three meetings last year.

The Malaysians are hoping to do better in Copenhagen than their second round appearances in 2013 and 2011.

The 25-year-old Hui Lin and her younger sister Hui Ern rejoined BAM one month ago after completing their three-year economic studies.

In mixed doubles, fourth seeds and Commonwealth Games champion Chris Adcock- Gabrielle Adcock took only 33 minutes to oust Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing 21-16, 21-9 in the second round.

“I did not get my revenge but it is okay as they are among the top pairs in the world,” said Pei Jing in Copenhagen yesterday.

“We just couldn’t beat them, though, we had studied their game. It shows we still need to learn the finer points of the game.

“We have learnt a lot from this defeat and hopefully, we will become stronger in the next tournament. I don’t think we should be disappointed with our performance.”

In women’s singles, defending champion and fourth seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand opened her campaign by easing past Spain’s Beatriz Corrales 21-18, 21-10 while London Olympics champion and top seed Li Xuerui blanked Czech Republic’s Kristina Gavnholt 21-13 21-17 in 37 minutes.

Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk got off to a bright start by overcoming Scotland’s Kieran Merrilees 21-16 21-17 in the men’s singles first round before second seed Chen Long of China blanked Austria’s Luka Wraber 21-8, 21-10.
