Six out of 10 nudists pleads guilty

BALIK PULAU: Six of the 10 people charged at the Magistrate court today with frolicking in the nude at Penang National Park pleaded guilty.

The four others claimed trial.

They were jointly charged under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code for lewd activities in a public place, which carries imprisonment up to three months or fine or both if found guilty.

In addition, one of the accused, identified as Albert Yam, was also charged under Section 292 of the same Act for recording and distributing pornographic material.

They were charged with committing the offence between 3pm and 6pm on May 30 at Teluk Kampi, in Teluk Bahang here.

Deputy public prosecutor Edward Cheah prosecuted, while counsel Allen Choong and Jason Khor represented Loh Kok Hong and Teh Guan Hoong respectively.

The other accused were not represented.

It was reported that a 5.25 minute long video, titled "Penang Nude Sports Games 2014" was uploaded on to video-sharing website Vimeo about three months ago, which showed participants frolicking in the nude.

The group of 18 nudists took turns to paint their bodies before they took to the beach for some sports games, which included swim-over-body challenge and passing-the-baton.

The video which went viral caused a public uproar.
