Chance to build your dream city

GEORGE TOWN: Build your dream city with Lego bricks at The Living City interactive exhibition at the Penang Island Municipal Council Town Hall.

Organised by #BetterCities, a non-profit organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, the exhibition aims to inspire the public to view cities as living beings.

The project also empowers people to take ownership of the places they live in, instead of just seeing them as unmoving or stagnant landmarks.

Visitors are allowed to build and create whatever they want on a designated green space in the hall.

Participants in this project can also draw on their creativity, personal interests and memory to transform the space into a “breathing city”.

So far, iconic buildings such as the Eiffel Tower, Taipei 101, Amsterdam canal houses, bridges and skyscrapers bearing names of participants are some of the structures which have been built.

As they progress, participants also have to decide whether to demolish or to deplete green space available to expand the city.

#BetterCities was also involved in last year’s Georgetown Heritage Urban Residency project, where participants transformed an overlooked public space into a thriving, and livable space.

The exhibition, which opens from 10am to 6pm, ends on Sunday.
