Penang Hill multi-storey car park hits another snag

GEORGE TOWN: The completion of Penang Hill multi-storey car park has been delayed yet again.

The car park, located at the entrance of the Penang Hill Railway Lower Station, will only be open to the public in February next year instead of later this year.

Today, the authority in charge of the car park, Penang Development Corporation (PDC), announced that construction would be extended to end of October.

Presently, the construction is 75 per cent completed.

PDC, in a press conference said if the contractors failed to complete the project by then, they would be imposed a RM5,000 penalty a day until completion.

PDC deputy general manager II Hartini Ali said after the project is completed, it is expected to be only open to public three months later after obtaining a certificate of fitness.

This is the third time the project has been extended, the last was in May this year.

The extension earlier this year was given after contractors discovered an underground boulder.

The boulder had to be broken down using chemicals as explosives could not be used because homes were located nearby.
