Fresh elections will ensure will of people prevails

THE recent turn of events in Selangor has reached another crossroads for the disorganised PKR. The Selangor sultan has decreed that the alliance submit more candidates to be considered for the menteri besar post.

Based on the latest news report, it seems that PKR and DAP will stick with their choice of Datuk Seri Dr Wan
Azizah Wan Ismail, while Pas stubbornly said it will provide three names on Wednesday.

PKR’s leadership is extremely weak, further proof that the coming together of PKR, DAP and Pas in the last general election was a gimmick to fool voters.

It is justifiable that the power to choose the menteri besar and state government be reverted back to Selangor voters. A dissolution of the State Assembly looks like the best option available to achieve that objective.

Despite opinions that a fresh state election will be wasting public funds, it does not hold water at this point, considering the ridiculous political manoeuvres by PKR which will ultimately affect Selangor state administration and the people.

A fresh mandate from the people will provide a clear indication of who they prefer to manage and lead the state.

If the election results indicate that the majority still want the PKR government, so be it, but if the results say otherwise, then it will serve as a good example for other politicians to take heed, especially those who think they can get away when they abuse the people’s mandate.

The country has always been a fair democracy where the will of the people finally prevail.

More importantly, after this fiasco, a fresh election will give fair opportunity to Selangor voters to exercise their rights to revisit or reaffirm their support accordingly.
