Input from various sources in MH17 report

KUALA LUMPUR: The preliminary report on the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 incident prepared by the Dutch Safety Board will contain facts from various sources, which will enable an initial provisional sequence of the crash to be presented.

The board, which is leading the investigation, said investigators would collect information from various sources, including the aircraft cockpit voice recorder, flight data recorder, satellite and other images and radar data.

“Data will be compared to determine whether the various sources corroborate with each other or present a different view. This is a delicate and time-consuming process that has yet to be completed.”

It added that a discussion
will be held between the international investigation team and the board on draft versions of the preliminary report, prior to being published.

“The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) states that the normal period required for drawing up a preliminary report is between two to four weeks. However, justified exceptions are permitted.

“Given the particular and complex circumstances surrounding this occurrence, it is not yet clear when the preliminary report will be published,” it said.

The board said the interim report, which would also contain safety warnings, must be released during an investigation, as set out by the ICAO.

The board previously announced that it would release flight MH17’s preliminary report by early next month.

However, results of the analysis of the two MH17 black boxes
would only be included in the final report, which would be released next year.
