MH17: Jakim team arrives after 45 days in Amsterdam

SEPANG: Four officials from the Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) tasked with performing religious rites on the Muslim victims of the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH17 arrived safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this morning after 45 days in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The group, led by the Putra Mosque grand imam Abdul Manaf Mat, was greeted by Jakim director-general Datuk Othman Mustapha after their flight touched down at about 6:35am.

Othman said their 45-day mission in Amsterdam ran smoothly without incident and the four who returned home today have already been replaced by another four Jakim members who were currently there.

The team that arrived today also comprised Mohd Ajib Ismail, Zulrushdi Salleh, and Sitaton Mohd Osman.

Othman said the relief team in Amsterdam was led by Tuanku Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin mosque grand imam Azharudin Baharudin.
