Corrupt Customs officer fined RM10,000

IPOH: A 40-year-old Customs Department's assistant enforcement officer has been fined RM10,000 and jailed five months after he was found guilty of asking RM500 from a mini market operator.

Haminuddin Mohamed, 40, had earlier pleaded guilty to asking for RM500 from Sahabudin Mohamed Gani of Saburthan Mini Market at Kampung Banggol Pasir in Changkat Jering, Taiping on May 13 last year as an inducement not to take action against Sahabudin who was keeping and selling illegal cigarettes.

Haminuddin, who is based at the Penang International Airport, was charged under Section 16 (a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission Act 2009.

He was sentenced under Section 24 of the same Act.
