Dutch board may release report on MH17 next week

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dutch Safety Board is expected to release the preliminary report on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 by next week.

Its spokesman, Sara Vernooij said board chairman Tjibbe Joustra would decide on the exact date to release the initial report.

The board, which is leading the investigation into the downing of the aircraft over eastern Ukraine,  said the preliminary report, which would serve to explain the cause of the crash, was being prepared based on information gathered from various sources, including the aircraft’s two black boxes.

It was reported that the full analysis of the MH17 flight data and cockpit voice recorders would be included in the final report, which is expected to be released next year.

Department of Civil Aviation director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said a team had been tasked with reviewing the preliminary report as soon as it was published.

However, he declined to reveal more information about the team.

On whether they would come out with specific recommendations based on the interim report, Azharuddin said it would depend on the results of the report.

“We have not received any updates on the analysis of MH17’s black boxes.

“Any recommendations (we could make), however, would depend on what the preliminary report contains.”
