KUALA LUMPUR: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia expects the construction sector to record double-digit growth again this year, driven by the ongoing mega government projects under the Economic Transformation Programme.
Its chairman, Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, said the industry achieved 10.6 per cent growth last year.
"Currently, we have mega projects, particularly the light rail transit and mass rapid transit, which involve local and foreign companies and they provide jobs to the people, directly or indirectly," he said.
Ahmad Tajuddin said this at a media briefing on the International Construction Week 2014 (ICW 2014), which will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre from Sept 17-23, 2014.
ICW 2014 is expected to attract 15,000 visitors with participants from UK, Germany, Ghana, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Tajuddin said ICW 2014, themed 'Building a Better Tomorrow', would serve as a gateway and platform for local and regional industry players to promote their skills, services and products and at the same time to network globally.
Meanwhile, on the coming Budget 2015, Tajuddin hoped it would include proposals which would help boost the construction sector.-- Bernama
