Government economic transformation pogrammes propelled strong growth: Muhyiddin

VIENTIANE (LAOS): Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had attributed Malaysian strong economic growth to the economic transformation programmes rolled out under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak leadership.

Muhyiddin said Malaysian GDP (gross domestic production) of 6.4 per cent recorded in the second quarter of this year was the best among the Asean countries while unemployment rate remained at a low rate of 2.8 per cent.

He said the government pro-business policy introduced under the transformation programmes had also played a crucial factor in attracting record-high RM200 billion investment last year.

"This is a great achievement given that it was recorded in a competitive environment where all countries are trying hard in pulling investments," Muhyiddin said in his speech during a dinner with the Malaysian community in Vientiane upon his arrival here last night.

Present were his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman and Malaysian Ambassador to Laos Datuk Than Tai Hing.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister is here to attend two-day 8th Asean Education Ministers' Meeting (ASED) which begins today.

It was reported earlier that Malaysia had recorded 6.1 economic growth for the first quarter of this year.
