It stays with you

BLUE-EYED British singer-songwriter Sam Smith doesn’t only have an angelic and gentle face but also a heavenly voice that is absolutely divine.

That is proven through the 22 year-old’s internationally successful third single off his debut album In The Lonely Hour. The album spawned the celebrated track, Stay With Me, a smooth yet melodious number that listeners can easily fall in love with.

Smith’s rich and soulful vocals soothes the mind as he sings about a man drowning in loneliness. In the melancholic tune, the man knows that he is searching for love at the wrong places but continues to make mistakes as he hungers for companionship to fill the emptiness.

The song begins with gentle piano chords and is accompanied by an equally soft and steady beat. It gradually builds up to an intense and emotionally-satisfying chorus where his voice, accompanied by the heavenly voices of a choir, packs a punch: “Oh, won’t you stay with me? ‘Cause you’re all I need.”

Stay With Me topped both the UK Singles chart and the US Billboard Pop Songs, Adult Contemporary, Adult Pop Songs and Radio Songs charts and continues to remain in the Top 10 list weeks later.

London-born Smith, who first found fame when he was featured on the breakthrough single of English electronic music duo Disclosure in 2012, was featured in Naughty Boy’s chart-topping single La La La last year. He then picked up awards at Brit Critics’ Choice Award, the BBC’s Sound of 2014 poll and the Breakout Music Artist award for Young Hollywood Awards this year.

Smith released his debut album last May. It includes the hit singles Lay Me Down, Money On My Mind and the chart-topper Stay With Me.
