DPM to chair meeting on exams SOPs

SUNGAI SIPUT: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will chair a special meeting on Monday which will look into improving standard operating procedures involving examination papers.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the meeting would be held with the ministry's high-ranking officials.

"Normally such meeting is handled by the Malaysian Examination Board but I have decided to chair it because I want to learn in depth the whole process and SOP's.

"The meeting would discuss how we can tighten the SOPs on examination papers," he told reporters at a press conference after closing the Umno division meeting here this afternoon.

He said the meeting would be discussing added measures to improve the storage and distribution of the UPSR replacement papers for the English and Science subjects which over 470,000 pupils would be resitting on Sept 30.

Meanwhile, in his speech earlier, Muhyiddin urged Umno members to be more united to add strength to the party.

He said Umno was becoming stronger by the year with increased Malay support pointing out that the party's membership had increased to more than 3.5 million members.

The country's progress thus far, he stressed was due largely to the policies set by the Umno-led government

"Umno has taken the country to great heights. Its economy is growing tremendously,” he said.
