Land reserved for Langat 2 project

A PLOT of land covering an area of 8.6 hectares in Bukit Sungai Putih forest reserve has been earmarked for the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant Project.

It was one of the amendments to the Ampang Jaya Local Plan 2020.

The land on Lot 947 is located next to Kg Bukit Sungai Putih, and situated near Kg Lembah Jaya and Ampang Saujana.

The Langat 2 project, initially scheduled for construction in 2010, finally took off and is expected to be completed in April 2017.

The major project will be able to supply water to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur until 2025.

Raw water will be channelled from Sg Semantan in Pahang through a transfer tunnel to Selangor under the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council secretary Abdul Hamid Hussain, who was met at the launch of the public display for the amendments of the local plan, said Langat 2 water treatment plant was among the five federal projects in the municipality.

“Another project listed as amendments to the local plan is the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) which requires the developer to clear more than 40.4ha of the forest in the state park for the highway project to ease traffic congestion of MRR2.”

Another project is the Sg Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE), which will serve as an effective traffic dispersal system as it provides a link between the city centre and eastern Klang Valley via Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH).

It will also link eastern and northern Klang Valley via Duta-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (DUKE) and it also connects and complements DUKE, AKLEH, Grand Saga Expressway, Besraya Expressway, Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway and Shah Alam Expressway.

Another project listed is the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) phase 2 project which will start from Jelatek intersection to Ulu Kelang intersection.

River of Life project (ROL) which is part of the Greater KL will also be included in the local plan.

ROL is aimed at developing the river corridor and primarily rehabilitating the Klang Valley rivers, which stretch from Sungai Klang to Sungai Gombak, into a vibrant and livable place where the public can enjoy leisure activities.

The amendments of Ampang Jaya Local Plan is currently on display at the MPAJ headquarters for public objections and feedback until Oct 14.

“Apart from the five federal projects, there are 30 amendments on land use in various areas listed in the local plan. We urge residents to submit their objections and feedback to us before the deadline.

“All feedback will then be submitted to the state government for consideration before we can proceed with the gazettement of the amendments that will be included in the local plan,” said Hamid.
