Confidence dose needed

TEY Seu Bock wants shuttlers Goh Soon Huat and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin to inject confidence in their game ahead of the Asian Games.

The men’s singles coach said time is running short for both shuttlers to make any drastic changes to their game, as the team event begins on Monday.

Either Soon Huat or Iskandar will be Malaysia’s third singles at the Games behind World No 1 Lee Chong Wei and Chong Wei Feng.

“Chong Wei and Wei Feng are ready for the challenge in Incheon, but time is running short for Soon Huat and Iskandar.

“Both Soon Huat and Iskandar are almost similar in terms of standard, but I would like to see them show more confidence,” said Seu Bock on Sunday.

Fourth seeded Malaysia received a first round bye and will play the winners of the tie between Mongolia-Macau in the quarter-finals, before taking on top seeds China in the semi-finals.

“Preparation has been going well and Chong Wei has also recovered from a gum problem.

“I know that our team will do well, but I really want them to believe in themselves. Only they can do it.”

The doubles players in the squad are Tan Boon Heong, Hoon Thien How, Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah and Chan Peng Soon.

The national team, who are in their last phase of centralised training, will leave for Incheon tomorrow. By Fabian Peter
