Malaysia Day babies bring more joy to celebration

KLANG: A 31-year-old nurse gave birth to her second Malaysia Day baby today morning.

Zalina Harun, a nurse with Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR), delivered her fourth child, a son, at 6.34am.

Besides sharing his birthday with Malaysia, Zalina's yet unnamed son will celebrate the same birthday as his elder sister.

"I am definitely proud to give birth to another 1Malaysia child.

"My third child was also born on the same date, so we can celebrate both children's birthdays together in the coming years," she told reporters at the maternity ward at HTAR, here, today.

She also expressed her hopes that her son would recover quickly as he had been warded in the intensive care unit (ICU).

"I hope my son will become a useful member of the country and family," she said.

In the bed opposite her lay Noraini Affendi, 31, who also gave birth to a Malaysia day baby today.

Around 9am, Noraini gave birth to her sixth child, a daughter.

"My initial due date was Oct 20 but the doctor cautioned me that the baby might be born early because I suffer from diabetes.

"I was warded six days ago and did not expect to give birth on Malaysia Day," she said, adding that she was happy with the coincidence.

As at noon today, there were 11 Malaysia Day babies, five boys and 6 girls, born at HTAR.

The mothers and their newborns were visited by Selangor Youth Council president Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim and close to 30 other members of the association.

Irmohizam said the objective of the visit was to celebrate the joyous occasion with the mothers and their babies as well as to give them a donation of diapers.
