Ringgit opens higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today on improved demand for the local unit.

At 9.06am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2155/2185 against the greenback from 3.2280/2300 at 5pm on Monday.

A dealer said investors shifted their attention to the ringgit in the midst of US Federal Reserve policy review on September 16-17.

Against other major currencies, the local note was traded higher.

The local unit appreciated to 2.5489/5534 versus the Singapore dollar from 2.5496/5532 on Monday, rose against the yen to 2.9976/0009 from 3.0084/0117 and advanced against the euro to 4.1641/1686 from 4.1712/1745 on Monday.

The ringgit also edged up against the British pound to 5.2274/2336 from Monday's 5.2478/2526.-- Bernama
