MPSJ: No more leniency for repeat offenders

SUBANG JAYA: Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) will revoke the licence of business operators who repeatedly ignore the council’s requirements and bylaws.

MPSJ enforcement deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said the council will no longer tolerate repeat offenders.

“If they are found repeating the offence more than three times, we will revoke their licence without notice.

“Offences include placing tables and chairs outside their premises, setting up stalls more than what is allowed under the law,” said Azfarizal who recently led a 45-member team during a council operation at Taman Equine in Seri Kembangan.

During the operation, two restaurants in Jalan Equine 9C and a hotel in Jalan Equien 1E were raided and their property confiscated.

Azfarizal said one of the restaurants and the hotel were operating without a licence.

“Another restaurant has valid business licences but did not apply for permits to place tables and chairs in front of their premises.

“Both restaurants had placed these items on the parking lots and at the back alley, causing traffic disruption.

“The restaurants had also set up 15 to 30 stalls.

“According to council rules, a corner-lot restaurant is only allowed to set up five stalls while a middle-lot restaurant two stalls.

Azfarizal said the two restaurants had committed the same offences eight times.

They were charged under the Trade, Licence, Business and Industry Bylaw for violating MPSJ’s licence restrictions and could be fined a maximum RM1,000.

“Because of their action, the grease traps can no longer cope with the amount of cooking oil coming from the stalls, thus causing the drain to clog.

“The back alleys have also turned into a breeding ground for rats and mosquitoes due to the poor waste management,” he said.

The hotel owner, meanwhile, was slapped with a compound under the Hotel Bylaw 2007 and could face a maximum fine of RM1,000. By Fairuz Mohd Shahar
