Investors not affected by new toll: Shahrir

JOHOR BARU: Veteran politician Tan Sri Shahrir Samad said that the Oct 1 toll hike by the Singapore government is not going to affect investment in Johor.

He believes those who have invested in the state will either stay here, or they could conduct their business virtually in the age of the Internet.

"The boss need not be physically in the office. It is only his subordinates and even if they need to pay the toll, it will not affect them much in relation to the salary that they are getting," said Shahrir who is the Johor Baru member of parliament.

He said this after launching the "Sharing of Hardships - Exhibition on Gambier and Pepper here today.

Shahrir, who is also the adviser to the Iskandar Regional Development Authority's (Irda) board, said renting or buying a property in Johor was still cheaper than renting or staying in the republic.
