KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened lower today on lack of demand for the local unit.
At 9.13am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2390/2420 to the US dollar from 3.2260/2290 traded at 5pm on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the local unit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies, except for the Japanese yen.
The ringgit was lower against the euro at 4.1806/1848 from yesterday's 4.1573/1625, weakened against the British pound to 5.3466/3535 from 5.2600/2659 but rose against the yen to 2.9669/9708 from 2.9711/9749 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the local unit eased against the Singapore dollar to 2.5540/5582 from Thursday's 2.5456/5493.-- Bernama
